Description

Synopsis: The 4F-class international airport is launched with much fanfare, underscoring the goverment's commitment to building major infrastructure to spur national development and enhance Cambodia's standing as a dynamic Southeast Asian travel and trade destination.

Prime Minister Hun Manet launched the $2.3 billion Techo International Airport (KTI) yesterday, declaring that the facility will emerge as a powerful driving force for Cambodia’s economic and tourism development.

The grand opening ceremony attended by a host of VVIPs spotlighted the massive infrastructure project that has already served as the country’s aviation gateway for over a month. KTI replaced the Phnom Penh International Airport (PPIA) as the Kingdom’s main aviation hub on September 9, 2025.

In his inaugural remarks, Mr Hun Manet emphasised the airport’s strategic importance and its role in broadening Cambodia’s global connections.

“This airport is remarkably a massive achievement, a milestone in the nation’s development, which will help and expand air connections between the Kingdom and destinations around the world.”

The world-class airport, classified as a 4F-level international facility, is capable of accommodating long-haul flights and large aircraft, including the Airbus A380 and Boeing 747.

The project, on a 2,600-hectare site south of the capital, began development in 2020. Currently in its first phase, the facility features a dual four-kilometre runway with a capacity to handle 13 million passengers annually. The second and the third phases aim to increase the total capacity to 30 million passengers by 2030 and up to 50 million by 2050.
