Description

According to the Governor of Preah Vihear Province, the construction of the access road to Sophemith Waterfall may be carried out in parallel with the project to build a bridge across the river to Laos.

Mr. Kim Rithy, Governor of Preah Vihear Province, told Kampuchea Thmey during a press conference on the five-year achievements of the provincial administration last week that the construction of the road leading to Sophemith Waterfall could be linked with the bridge construction project.

“Recently, I visited the site and saw that the road is still unpaved. Whether it will be asphalted or not, the project may be implemented at the same time as the construction of the bridge crossing the river to Champasak Province, Laos,” he said.

Regarding when the bridge construction connecting Kampong Sralau to Champasak Province in Laos will begin, the governor said that the Royal Government has already set technical principles, but the project has not yet been finalized 100%.

In addition, the Prime Minister of Cambodia has signed a memorandum on border negotiations between the two countries and encouraged the opening of more border checkpoints along the more than 140-kilometer-long border.

Sophemith Waterfall, also known as Preah Nimith Waterfall, is located along the Mekong River at the border between Cambodia and Laos, spanning Stung Treng and Preah Vihear provinces of Cambodia and Champasak Province of Laos.

Tourists can reach the waterfall from Preah Vihear via National Road No. 9, passing Chey Saen District, or from Stung Treng Province via the same national road, then continuing along provincial gravel roads through the Prey Preah Roka forest to reach the site.

In addition to community-based services, the area also has a foreign-invested resort providing accommodation and recreational services for visitors.
